Royal festivities at the French court

World premiere: Hong Kong, May 2015
European premiere on the opening evening of Chambord Festival, July 2015

Francis I, who was crowned king of France at the age of twenty, was a chivalrous monarch, a builder of châteaux, a patron who gathered around him the most illustrious artists, poets, musicians, architects and engineers of the Renaissance, including Leonardo da Vinci, Benvenuto Cellini and Francesco Primaticcio. Young, athletic and an excellent dancer, he was to involve all those artists in the court entertainments that reached their height with the so-called “Magnificences” – extravagant and highly refined expressions of the art of the French court fête.

“Truly creative. Much more than a re-creation, restoration or reconstruction.”, 24 November 2015, Nicolas Villodre

” The performance was superb and gorgeous in its authenticity, with period music, dances, and costumes. [...] We look forward to seeing more performances like this in the future.”
